Justice for juniors
Role
Amalya directed the arts initiative for Good Deeds Day, a national day of service on college campuses. Justice for Juniors is an organization that provides tutoring and mentoring for local youth.
She decided on the 3D letters project and quote.
The Project
Good Deeds Day was an exciting opportunity to enliven the sad, peeling walls of the Hillel building multi-purpose room. Amalya decided to create a 3D quote. She loves building and crafts projects and decided to provide the youth with a more tactile opportunity. Each letter is built from pieces of cardboard, small paper Dixie cups and tape. Artists built the letters, applied one coat of gesso primer and then were encouraged to paint the face of their letter as creatively as possible. The sides of each letter were painted black to create uniformity among the wildly different designs.
Outcome
The students had fun and were each able to complete their letter in the allotted time. The letters were beautiful, diverse and colorful and the multi-purpose room looked better than it had in years.
Many Thanks!
